Some places in the world have worn thin. Old battlefields, drowned temples, crypts sealed for too long. Where the veil wears through, something from the cold, empty dark beyond can step into our world. The Void Mantis is one of them.
It stands taller than the trees, all grey sinew and long hooked claws, its head crowned with curling horns. It does not hunt to feed. It hunts because life itself offends it. Grass withers under its feet, torches gutter as it passes, and anything that strays too close simply fades, the warmth drawn out of it until nothing is left. When it raises one claw and points, the one it has chosen is already lost.
It is slow, patient and tireless. Run, and it follows. Hide, and it waits. Wherever it has walked, the land stays dead for a generation.
Our Void Mantis is inspired by the nightwalker of D&D, reshaped with a mantis’s reach and a few artistic freedoms of our own. Just in time for Halloween.
